Privacy Policy for Tab Tracker (tabanalytics.io)
Last Updated: October 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Tab Tracker browser extension available on the Chrome Web Store and services hosted at tabanalytics.io, operated by Alihan Keskin ("we", "us", or "our"). The extension is local-first. Free extension usage transmits 0 bytes off the device: we do not collect, monitor, or export your browsing data unless you register an explicit Pro subscription. Cybersecurity features and cloud synchronization stay deactivated until that subscription is registered. The public website separately uses Google Analytics to count page visits. That measurement does not include extension data.
1. Default Mode: Strictly Local Operation
In its standard operation, the Tab Tracker extension runs entirely within your local browser sandbox:
- No Remote Data Ingestion: Free extension usage is strictly local-first and transmits 0 bytes off the device. We do not automatically collect, log, transmit, or store any of your browsing activities on remote servers, external databases, or third-party analytical pipelines.
- Local Processing Only: All metrics—including opened tab counts, base domain visit tallies, and user settings (e.g., excluded domains/blacklists)—are processed and saved strictly on your local device via Chrome's native storage (
chrome.storage.local). - No PII Collection: The extension never collects or processes personally identifiable information, account credentials, passwords, search queries, form inputs, session cookies, or full URL query strings.
2. Optional Paid Services (User-Requested Cloud Sync & Export)
Cybersecurity features and cloud synchronization are deactivated until an explicit Pro subscription is registered. Remote telemetry is only transmitted for authenticated Pro users. It covers aggregated metadata such as rule names and domains, with zero password or secret ingestion. Remote data collection or cloud transmission occurs only when all of the following conditions are met:
- You explicitly request off-device backup, cross-device sync, or advanced reporting features.
- You register an account and purchase an optional paid subscription (Pro plan).
- You intentionally trigger or authorize cloud data synchronization.
When a paid user initiates cloud features:
- Scope of Data: Only aggregated domain-level visit statistics and tab summaries are synchronized. Raw web history, private session data, and specific page contents are never collected or transmitted.
- Encryption in Transit & Rest: Any data sent to our servers upon your request is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored securely.
- Right to Revoke: You may stop cloud synchronization or request permanent deletion of your stored cloud data at any time through your account settings.
3. Chrome Extension Permissions & Justifications
Tab Tracker requests only the minimum required browser permissions to perform its core analytics locally:
storage: Used exclusively to store user preferences (such as blacklisted domains) and local tab count metrics on your device.tabs: Required to count open and closed tabs and evaluate active base domains locally.alarms: Used to run scheduled local maintenance tasks, such as aggregating daily totals and purging expired local records, without keeping background workers active indefinitely.idle: Used to detect system lock or user inactivity states so tracking pauses automatically, preventing artificial inflation of browsing statistics.
4. Data Sharing, Sale, and Third Parties
- No Data Brokerage: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or trade your personal information or browsing records to third parties, data aggregators, or advertising networks under any circumstances.
- No Ad Targeting: Extension usage data is never used to profile you, display targeted ads, or determine creditworthiness.
- Website measurement: tabanalytics.io loads Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to record which pages are visited. Google may receive the page URL, approximate location, device and browser details, and the referring site. We do not send Tab Tracker extension data—domains, tab counts, or active time—to Google Analytics. Google processes this website data under its own privacy policy.
5. User Data Rights and Controls
You maintain total authority over all data handled by Tab Tracker:
- Blacklist Management: You can exclude any domain from being tracked by adding it to your blacklist in the extension options page.
- Manual Local Export: You can export your recorded browsing data at any time as a structured JSON file directly from your local browser without paying or signing up.
- Immediate Deletion: You can clear your tracked statistics directly from the extension settings. Uninstalling the extension permanently wipes all locally stored records from your machine.
